What is a Metadata Remover?
A Metadata Remover clears hidden document properties — author, company, software name, and timestamps — from PDF, Word, Excel, and CSV files before you share them.
Which files does FileMeta Wipe accept?
PDF, DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX, and CSV. DOCX and XLSX keep properties in a zip. PDF uses an Info dictionary and XMP. DOC and XLS use OLE summary streams.
Does the file leave my browser?
This preview does not upload the file. Choosing one only reads the name and size in this tab.
Will the words in the document change?
No. The goal is the properties around the document, not the text, cells, or pages. CSV cell values stay.
What does a PDF strip have to remove?
The Info dictionary and the XMP metadata stream. Emptying the Info fields alone leaves XMP and any older incremental update in the file.
Why are DOC and XLS called out separately?
Legacy Word and Excel files store metadata in OLE summary streams. This preview does not rewrite those streams.
What happens if I click Remove metadata today?
The page tells you the file was not changed and was not uploaded. A later version can rewrite a cleaned copy in the browser.
